Sustainability
As a renewable energy company, Statkraft’s greatest commitment to sustainability is to transition the world from harmful fossil fuels to infinitely cleaner forms of renewable energy such as solar, wind and hydropower. That’s a big ambition, but it isn’t enough. In helping to make that transition happen, we need to show due care for people and for nature. Keep reading to find out how we do that across four key pillars.
The primary ambition of our work is to contribute to a more sustainable future by bringing renewable energy to industries, businesses, communities, and homes around the world. We will do this by investing only in renewables.
However, there is simply no such thing as a zero-impact energy source.
As Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy, we bear a significant responsibility to make sure that sustainability more broadly isn’t just an element of our business: it needs to be ingrained into everything we do.
Integrating sustainability: committing to four pillars
To make sure sustainability is as integrated as possible in what we do, we’ve chosen four pillars that are most relevant for our work. They are Climate Action, Biodiversity, Just Transition, and Circular Economy.
These pillars are also chosen because they represent both major challenges for us as a business, but they also represent some of the biggest opportunities. Through these pillars, we set actions, goals and measurements for ourselves so that we can track our performance. Examples of areas where we measure our performance are nature protection, emission reductions, adding value to local communities, and reuse and recycling to name just a few. The results of our performance are published each year in the Sustainability section of our annual report. You can find the latest version here.
Through the pages found in this section, you can dive deeper into the detail of what work we do within sustainability across our footprint, and find some examples of tangible actions we’re taking.
